From WhenceAlthough the subject matter was derived from Trek and loads of Trek-like material, Lightspeed Drifting got its title from the video game "Hyper Light Drifting." I became aware of this game through its mesmerizing soundtrack by Richard Vreeland. It was only later I learned about the game itself, and later still about its developer, Alx Preston, who throughout his career suffered from congenital heart disease. (Wow, that really hit home.) While I had known that the main character from the game dies in the end, I was unaware that he was also apparently based on a cat! Being deeply into music, the "Hyper Light Drifting" soundtrack spent several days on repeat. Moving, affecting and captivating, it invoked many visions in my mind, visions far removed from the game (I do not play games and have only recently seen visuals from HLD). Incidentally, the fate of Felini was one of a few different ideas I was considering, and is only coincidently related to that of the game's main character. HOMECopyright © 2025-2026 by David K.
