Dance/EDM/Techno/Electronic

The irony of it is that I don't dance. At all. Not even a little. But I very much enjoy EDM and, on occasion, disco (horrors!). I rolled in plain old Electronic music since most of mine has a beat, and if it has a beat, presumably one can dance to it.

Planned Entropy

Released 31 January 2022 | 4:30

This piece of pure techno emerged out of an experiment to see if I could create a track made solely from percussion. As per usual, the tune took a hard right turn along the way and became something entirely different.

Patent Pending

Released 3 February 2022 | 6:06

Here's a piece that may be a bit of a challenge to get into. Comprised mostly of commercial loops, with some of my homegrown percussion thrown in for good measure, it's an exercise in juxtaposing slightly awkward sounds to see how far I can push things before they break. I've remixed it three times post-release, and I still might not be done with it.

Harder Faster Stranger

Released 9 February 2022 | 5:28

This genre-defying laundry bin is overflowing with crazy loops all laid over an original drum and bass track. I confess it was little more than an excuse to use a lot of stuff I'd ordinarily never bother using. It was also a very enjoyable mixing challenge.

Cascade <best of>

Released 2 March 2022 | 6:12

This is a rare track in that it ended up just how I'd envisioned it from the outset. All I wanted to do was build a richly-layered tune around a simple dance beat, and it went together in a single afternoon.

Parallel Lines

Released 25 March 2022 | 8:37

Here's a perfectly straightforward electronic trance track. It's interesting that, the simpler the tune, often the harder it is to get right. After starting with over two dozen sounds (half just for the rhythm), I kept paring it back until I was down to only those elements that were really needed, which was less than a quarter of them. Curiously, I also discovered that the discordant bass line worked much better than expected.

Spring Dance

Released 8 April 2022 | 5:11

I felt an urge to make some music to celebrate the coming of Spring. So here's a nice chillout nu-disco tune that came out much better than expected. Plus, it's all mine—drums, melody, chord progressions, the whole shebang.

Move It or Lose It <best of>

Released 10 April 2022 | 5:22

What started out as a bit of a joke called "Body Parts" turned into a potent dance number with killer bass that shakes my floor. About 50-50 mine and commercial stuff, it works really well played really loud. It's also got lyrics—such as they are—as well as some pretty freaky synthetic backing vocals I created.

The Amazon

Released 20 April 2022 | 7:24

Dedicated to the warrior princess in your life, "The Amazon" is big and powerful in every way.

Spacetime

Released 24 April 2022 | 5:32

A mellow quasi-dance tune, "Spacetime" is dedicated to the late Stephen Hawking, who contributed the vocals—obviously without his (or anyone else's) permission, although I doubt anyone would come after me for pinching four words from a two-hour lecture. Unlike Hawking, it's simple and predictable.

Unfinished Business

Released 1 May 2024 | 4:32

Inspired by a music cue from one of my animation projects, this can of loops went together in a couple hours on the afternoon of 30 April 2024, and inspired me to continue doing more—at least for as long as I was able. This track sounds especially good played really loud.

Drum Addict

Released 3 May 2024 | 3:52

Yes, been there, done that, several times. But I can't resist piling on drum samples, and each time I do it, I try to make it more aesthetically pleasing. This one is leavened by a joyous synth melody.

I Can Do This

Released 14 May 2024 | 4:29

I'd always wanted to produce a track that relied heavily on string samples, so this piece fulfills a longstanding desire.

Almost December

Released 27 November 2024 | 6:45

A dark track, somewhat punchier and more raw than my normal stuff. The percussion solo is my favorite bit, as if that comes as a surprise.

Just Me and My Remote

Released 11 June 2025 | 6:20

What started as a cartoon tune got fleshed out into a full EDM piece just for giggles.

Don't Stop <best of>

Released 9 March 2025 | 21:17

Every so often, as I'm assembling the rhythm tracks for a new tune, I'll hit on something that really grabs me, and I sometimes wish it could just go on forever. This is one of those tunes. Honestly, once I got started building the soundscape, things snowballed; I released it six times until I was happy with it, and each time it got a little longer. It finally wound up as a rock/electronic opus in five movements, clocking in at over 20 minutes. If you happen to be terminally curious about the voice samples, it's a woman saying, "Don't stop, don't stop, take the long way home," and a man (Bob Dicker from Lightspeed Drifting) saying, "Love and hate, fire and ice, bring the fire.". This one wound up a "best of" track; indeed, I consider it technically the best track I've made to date.

Remain Calm <best of>

Released 13 August 2025 | 4:31

What started as a joke grew and grew until it became a force unto itself, and now one of my favorites. I was asked, "Why the whistle?" Well, it just works. Sometimes there's no way to articulate why one does what one does in music.

Bring It

Released 11 November 2025 | 14:16

Hard to decide if this is trance or dance. At almost 15 minutes, it does cause one to zone a bit. But it seems to work pretty well, especially on repeat for a good party background tune.

Bobby Said NO

Released 4 December 2025 | 4:04

Bobby is a real person. He's my best friend, and one day he made the remark, "you know that cartoon you made, where it starts out with a character screaming NO? Wouldn't that be a great beginning for a tune?" Sho nuff.
